Square: As I am very much into the Social Emotional aspects of teaching, I really enjoyed our discussions that revolved around this area.
Triangle: 1. We need to focus on our teaching of Language Arts at SAE. 2. Go to your peer teachers for support in all content areas including Social Emotional. 3. Math leveling is not static and must be altered on a regular basis.
Circle: How do I improve the math in our classroom to reach all of my students? How will I incorporate all of the programs we use at Seven Arrows?
Something that "squared" with me was the need to differentiate students in math and language arts so not to neglect any students needs.
Three main concepts for me: 1. Classroom management: I had not thought of ALL the situations that require procedures and routines in order to make the class run smoothly.
2. Helping students overcome math anxiety with a positive attitude and enthusiasm for math.
3. Use creative and challenging lessons in order to keep your gifted children interested and help them to reach their potential
Something that is still going round in my head is the need to create with my lead teacher for the many situations. I would also like to speak with her to understand what capacity she needs my help in each of the subject areas and how I can make her life easier. Classroom management will be a large part of my position, and the concepts you taught us yesterday about setting an early precedent and following your own rules are still going around.
Something that squared with me: I enjoyed the segment and activity with coding. It forced me to code when I typically do not and gave me valuable insight into the issues that students might have with coding for the first time
Three points to remember: 1. Students recognize when a teacher/parent does not like a subject and tend to emulate that person. 2. Students have a deep seeded hatred of math that needs to be turned around or addressed. 3. First week of school is one of the most important since it sets the precedent for the rest of the year especially in terms of structure and classroom management.
Something still going round and round in my head is: What sorts of projects/tasks to challenge the higher level math students such as Alex.
Something that squared with me this morning was the text coding. I found this tool very helpful, not only for in the classroom, but I can use this anywhere. I think the students will pick up on this very fast. I do agree with whom ever said that the whole school should have the same coding so that we can be consistent.
Three points that jumps out to me is classroom management, have high expectations for your students, observe your students and know their needs, and strengths.
Something that's going round and round in my head is the math discussion. Although, I'm not in the classroom for math, I have really bad math anxiety. That's something that's something that I'm working on..
